Our Story

Gad Dam Brewing was born from a playful spark during a beach vacation surrounded by family and friends. That initial ember grew brighter when, later that year, one of those friends gifted us a small home brew kit for Christmas. Home brewing quickly became a beloved ritual in our household, fueling our passion with each new batch. After much thoughtful deliberation—and plenty of encouragement—we finally decided to follow our hearts and open a craft brewery and coffee house.

Our Name

Gad Dam Brewing is all about embracing local history with a bit of a wink. Back in the 1960s, when the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers built a dam on the Gauley River, the small town of Gad ended up underwater, creating what we now know as Summersville Lake. Normally, the dam would've been named after the town it displaced, but officials figured “Gad Dam” might raise a few eyebrows—so they went with Summersville Dam instead.

We're here to celebrate that history with a name that nods to the past while keeping things lighthearted. Gad Dam Brewing is more than just a brewery—it's a tribute to the town that got lost beneath the lake and the people who called it home.
